Clout Chasing
what it means
The accusation is about motive, not action. Attending a protest is fine; attending it to film yourself attending it is clout chasing.
Doing something specifically to gain online attention rather than for any genuine reason.
the origin story
Grew directly from "clout" in the late 2010s as creator monetisation made attention-seeking more visibly strategic.
It became one of the most common accusations levelled at creators, and one of the hardest to prove — motive is invisible. That ambiguity means it's used both as legitimate criticism and as a way to dismiss anyone doing anything publicly.
