Fancam
what it means
Originally a K-pop format showing one member throughout a performance. It became infamous as a reply tactic: post a fancam under any tweet to derail it.
A video focused on a single performer, edited by fans — and a weapon in online arguments.
the origin story
K-pop fan practice from the 2000s, where fans filmed individual members; the reply-tactic use spread on Twitter around 2019-2020.
The reply use peaked in 2020, when fanbases flooded hashtags with fancams to disrupt them — sometimes for fandom disputes and, notably, to bury hostile campaign hashtags. It's one of the clearest examples of fandom organising being used as a form of coordinated action.
