Glazing
what it means
Sycophancy with an audience. "Stop glazing" tells someone their compliments have gone past sincere into uncomfortable.
Excessively praising someone to the point of embarrassment.
the origin story
Spread through gaming and sports Twitter around 2023, and became widespread on TikTok in 2024.
It largely replaced "simp" as the standard accusation of over-praise, partly because it's not gendered and applies to sports, music and politics equally. AI chatbots being overly agreeable are now routinely described as glazing, which has given the word a second life.
