Opp
what it means
Short for "opposition". It ranges from serious, in the drill music contexts it came from, to entirely joking about a colleague who takes the last biscuit.
An opponent or enemy — someone actively working against you.
the origin story
African American Vernacular English, prominent in Chicago drill music from the early 2010s and later UK drill.
It carries genuine weight in its original context, where opps means rival groups. The casual usage that spread through TikTok — calling your sibling an opp — is far removed from that, and the gap sometimes causes friction.
