the origin story
Grew from the older "I'm dead" and "I'm deceased" laughter phrases; became the dominant laughter marker around 2020-2021.
Its rise was fast and total. By 2021, surveys and think-pieces were noting that 😂 had become a generational marker, and 💀 had taken its place. Doubling or tripling it scales the laughter, and it also works alone as a complete reply.
