Became a standard Instagram format around 2020, as carousel posts and anti-curation aesthetics converged.
It emerged as a reaction against the highly-curated grid of the late 2010s. The irony is well understood: an effective photo dump requires just as much editorial judgement as a single polished post, only the effort has to be invisible.
