Storytime
what it means
Typically filmed while doing something else — makeup, driving, cooking. The best ones are genuinely gripping; the worst are stretched across six parts.
A video format where a creator narrates a personal anecdote, usually a dramatic one.
the origin story
A YouTube format from the mid-2010s, adapted to TikTok's short-form structure from 2020.
The short-form version created the multi-part cliffhanger, where a story is split across several videos to maximise views. That structure drew criticism for stringing viewers along, and "part 6 of 12" became a running joke.
