Grew with Justin.tv and its successor Twitch from 2007-2011, and expanded across YouTube, Kick and other platforms.
Streaming produced its own dialect — "chat", "mods", "clip that", "pog" — much of which has leaked into general speech. The live, hours-long format is also what makes streaming uniquely prone to parasocial attachment.
