Added to Unicode in 2015; its sceptical use was established almost immediately.
It became one of the most-used emoji in argumentative contexts, functioning as a rhetorical device rather than an expression. Its overuse in bad-faith replies eventually made it feel dated, and it's now often replaced by 👀 or a plain question mark.
