the origin story
From the PogChamp emote on Twitch, based on a 2010 blooper video; "poggers" emerged as a variant emote later.
The original PogChamp emote was removed by Twitch in January 2021 after the person pictured made inflammatory statements, and was replaced with a rotating series of community faces. The word survived the emote's removal entirely intact, which says something about how far it had spread.
